It’s a New Day

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Letting ourselves off the hook for yesterday – what a gift that would be! Today is my daughter’s birthday (Happy Birthday Rachel!) and I am reminded of starting over. For many, birthdays, holidays and special occasions mark the beginning’s and endings of our lives. If we are being kind to ourselves, we will evaluate what we did right and where we could have made better choices – where we achieved our goals and where we had to shift direction. Sometimes though, we will spend time bemoaning our loses and feeding our feelings of powerlessness – bringing the sorrow’s of yesterday into the promise of today.

Lewis Carroll wrote, “I can’t go back to yesterday because I was a different person then” and so were You.

Make today the day for starting over – giving grace to the past and your enthusiasm and passion to the present.
